General

All amounts mentioned include surcharges and taxes.
Minimum rental period is 6 days.
Transportation of any dive/kitesurf/windsurf equipment, accessories and clothing is not allowed in the SUVs. Please wear clothing but ensure you and the clothing are not wet. There is a no smoking policy in the vehicles. As with most car rental companies on the island, the doors should never be locked. Do not leave valuables in an unattended car.
All payments - rental and deposit, should be made in Euros via our Dutch bank account or in US Dollars via our Bonaire bank account. We do this for safety reasons, for you, as well as ourselves. Only customers living outside the ABC, BES or SEPA (Euro) countries can pay cash in US Dollars. We do NOT have credit card or debit card payment facilities, which helps to keep our prices low.
If you come back to Bonaire and rent a car from us again, you will receive a $5,- DISCOUNT per day. This discount is only valid with an interruption of at least 1 month between the previous and the new reservation.

*Elsewhere cheaper? We will refund the difference plus a $5,- per day discount as a bonus. This bonus may only be claimed prior to payment of the deposit and therefore confirmation of the booking. Price comparison can only be done with similar vehicles and only through 'official' car rental companies on Bonaire. 'Official' means the company is registered at the Chamber of Commerce, Bonaire and being in possession of a valid business license. This information is freely available via Chamber of Commerce. This offer cannot be used with any other discounts.
In the case of price changes and/or discounted promotions, the rates already applied to existing reservations cannot be adjusted and will therefore remain unchanged.

Insurances

The insurance is limited to those who have held a valid driving license for a minimum of 1 year and is over the age of 25 years. A vehicle may be driven by a maximum of 2 different drivers. Each driver must provide a copy of their valid driving license to BON4RENT prior to rental.
You are insured for third-party liability (civil liability). Damage and/or injury to third parties caused by you is somewhat higher than the excess.
You are super CDW (all-risk) insured. All damages (fault or no fault), theft, fire, vandalism, etc. to the rented vehicle that exceed the deductible will be compensated. This insurance is mandatory to protect you against extreme costs after damage in an accident. No other insurance, other than our own CDW insurance, will be accepted.
If a third party is guilty of damage to the rented vehicle, the damage will be recovered from this person, provided that the identity of this person is known and also insured. Failing this, your own risk insurance will be used to recover the costs involved.
The standard deductible payable (as a deposit) is €450,- Euros, or $450,- US Dollars when paying outside the SEPA (Euro) countries. This deductible can be reduced to €150,- Euros, or $150,- US Dollars when paying outside SEPA (Euro) countries, by paying $5,- US Dollars per day extra on the rental amount.
Normal use damage, such as light scratches or minor stone chips to the paintwork, are generally ignored when the vehicle is returned to us.
In the event of damage to the rented vehicle and/or to third parties, we will keep your deductible until the damage has been dealt with. If the amount of the damage is lower than the deductible, you will of course receive the difference. This deductible is associated to each damage incident, which means that if damage occurs, and if the rental period continues, the deductible must be paid again.
Exceptions:
The CDW insurance is void if you or fellow passenger(s) damage the rented vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, reckless driving, deliberate damage, using the vehicle for purposes other than the transport of passengers, such as, removals, transportation of dive/kitesurf/windsurf equipment, or of animals. The CDW insurance will also be void if you participate in rallies such as street races, sublet the car, vandalism arising from provocation, any damage occurring to the vehicle if it has been locked, allowing an uninsured person to drive the vehicle.
In any of the above cases, or otherwise, you will be personally liable for the full cost of the damage, plus the loss of income from BON4RENT for the duration of the period the vehicle cannot be rented - the cost of which is $36,- US Dollars per day (rental amount + 6% ABB). Should the vehicle be written off, you will be responsible for the total value of the car. (This value will be the value of the car in the condition it was at the commencement of the rental period.)

Our advice!

Due to the increasing tourism on Bonaire, there are insufficient rental cars, especially in the high season. There is no way to see all of Bonaire, other than by car. Avoid stress and book your car well in advance. Preferably at the same time that you book your accommodation.
We recommend that you rent a car for the entire duration of your stay. Bonaire may seem small on the map, but the distances between resorts, places of interest, catering establishments, supermarkets, etc. are considerable. Walking these distances in 30+ degrees temperatures is strongly discouraged! We do not say this to line our pockets, but because we have experienced it so often that customers want to extend the rental period at the last moment, and they have been unable to as the vehicle is already rented out to another customer.
Did you know that the total rental price is actually cheaper if you receive the car at the airport in the afternoon / evening, instead of the following morning?! The start of your holiday is therefore relaxed as you have your own vehicle immediately, meaning you are free to go where you wish, such as shopping, for example. You also do not need to make an additional appointment to collect your vehicle and thus interrupt your holiday further. Another great advantage is that you have your own personal transfer to your accommodation so you do not have to wait until all guests, travelling on the same bus, have exited the arrivals hall - this often takes 30 minutes.
Cheap, small cars are also offered on the island. While you might save a small amount of money, you should realize that you are not allowed to drive with these cars on unpaved roads. It is also not recommended to enter Washington Slagbaai Park, Lac Cai and many other beautiful nature spots, with these cars. In addition, the condition of the roads on Bonaire leaves a lot to be desired, so a car with great comfort and safety is a must. That is also the reason why BON4RENT opts for large cars, so you will not be faced with unpleasant surprises.

Arrival and departure

We will meet you at the airport, at the exit from the arrivals hall. Look for the sign with your name and our logo on it. Just a 5 minute drive to our BON4RENT location, where you will receive your car.
If you choose to have your car delivered to your accommodation, we will pick you up at the agreed time, drive you to our BON4RENT location, where you will collect your car.
Returns: Return the car at the agreed time to our BON4RENT location and we will drop you at the airport in plenty of time for your flight, or return you to your accommodation.
In almost all cases we will collect you in your rental car. Because we arrange everything with you in advance, the car is at your disposal with one signature.
You get the car with a full tank, so you return the car with a full tank. When you go to refuel, do not take chances by guessing the amount! Just hand your debit or credit card to the cashier and say that you want to refuel. The pump will then be turned on for you. You then pay the cashier when you have finished refueling. This is possible with a credit or debit card - if you have activated world coverage. The liter prices are the same at all 4 petrol stations on Bonaire. Allow at least half an hour for refueling as it can sometimes be busy at the gas station.

Driving on Bonaire

The traffic rules are almost the same as in Europe, but with one big difference which is that you have NO right of way from the right. Straight traffic always has priority. Maximum speed within built-up areas is 40Km/h. Outside built-up areas, it is 60Km/h. There is no highway and no traffic lights, so driving around the island is very relaxed.
In most countries, we drive on well built and maintained roads. Here, the road surface is full of holes in many places. Cars therefore have to withstand a lot. A flat tire or damage to the car can easily happen. Therefore always drive calmly and pay attention to the road.
Watch out for crossing donkeys, goats and dogs. They can run out of nowhere suddenly. You also regularly see iguanas and lizards walking on the road. Unfortunately, quite a number of these animals are hit every year with all the suffering that this entails.
Drive the car as if it were your own car! Drive smoothly everywhere. Accelerate slowly and brake slowly. Forget the rushed life in the rest of the world and enjoy the island.

Warning!

The island has many private individuals who rent out cars for attractive rates. In most cases, however, the insurance is not (properly) arranged. Each rental car must have a "rental" insurance policy. If this is not shown on the policy (which must be in the car), you are strongly advised not to drive this car. Damage, but also injury to third parties caused by you, will be entirely your responsibility. In case of permanent disability or worse, the costs are incalculable. With private insurance, in addition to the owner of the car, only a resident partner and / or their children, are insured.
The insurance is arranged at BON4RENT. In addition to civil liability (WA) insurance, you are also super CDW (all-risk) insured. All damage (including theft, vandalism and fire) above the deductible is covered.
